Cu (II) Protoporphyrin IX does not inhibit heme oxygenase (the enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of heme to biliverdin in the heme degradation pathway) and is used as a negative control for Zn (II) Protoporphyrin (an inihibitor of heme oxygenase).
