Cyclic GMP (cGMP) is an important second messenger and a major intracellular mediator of extracellular signals such as nitric oxide (NO) and natriuretic peptides (NPs). Its effects are primarily through cGMP-dependent protein kinases (PKGs), cGMP-gated cation channels, and phosphodiesterases (PDEs). Cyclic GMP can also inhibit platelet adhesion and aggregation. cGAMP (Cyclic-GMP-AMP), a conjugate of Cyclic GMP and AMP, can induce IRF3 phosphorylation and nuclear translocation, thereby enhancing antiviral immune responses.
