α-Cyclodextrin (α-CD) is a soluble fiber derived from corn that can deplete sphingolipids and phospholipids from cell membranes and interacts with tubulin. It has been shown to improve defenses against SARS-CoV-2 infection and enhances the anticancer efficacy against breast, lung, and cervical cancer. Additionally, it has beneficial effects on body weight and blood lipids.

  • Exerts a protective effect against SARS-CoV-2 infection in Vero E6 cells at non-cytotoxic concentrations.
  • Enhances the antitumor effect on MCF-7, A549, and HeLa cells at concentrations of 6.25-50 μM for 24 hours.
  • Diets containing 1-20% α-Cyclodextrin administered orally for 13 weeks did not produce signs of toxicity or adverse effects in rats.
  • Diets containing 0-20% α-Cyclodextrin administered orally for 13 weeks were well tolerated in Beagle dogs.
