Cystine Heart Agar with 5% Sheep Blood (No Antibiotics) is a nutrient rich, non selective medium formulated for cultivating highly fastidious microorganisms. Each sterile petri dish contains a beef heart infusion base supplemented with L cystine and 5% defibrinated sheep blood. The cystine component supplies essential sulfhydryl compounds that support the growth of demanding organisms including Francisella species. Sheep blood enhances the nutritional value of the medium while also allowing observation of hemolytic activity. Because the formulation does not include antimicrobial inhibitors, it is particularly suitable for specimens from normally sterile body sites or laboratory cultures where suppression of background flora is not required. The medium supports robust colony development and is widely used in microbiology laboratories.
