D/E (Dey Engley) Neutralizing Broth is a specialized microbiological medium designed for evaluating the effectiveness of disinfectants and antiseptics. Each tube contains approximately 9.9mL of broth formulated with multiple neutralizing agents including lecithin, polysorbate 80, sodium thioglycollate, sodium thiosulfate, and sodium bisulfite. This combination neutralizes a wide spectrum of antimicrobial chemicals such as quaternary ammonium compounds, phenols, chlorine, iodine, mercurials, formaldehyde, and glutaraldehyde. By immediately neutralizing residual disinfectants at the time of sampling, the medium prevents continued antimicrobial activity that could produce false negative results. D/E broth is widely used for environmental monitoring, sanitation verification, and microbiological validation of cleaning procedures.
