D/E (Dey Engley) Neutralizing Broth is a selective enrichment medium developed for testing the antimicrobial activity of disinfectants and antiseptics. Each tube contains approximately 9mL of broth formulated with neutralizing agents including lecithin, polysorbate 80, sodium thioglycollate, sodium thiosulfate, and sodium bisulfite. These compounds effectively neutralize a broad spectrum of disinfectants such as quaternary ammonium compounds, phenolics, iodine solutions, chlorine compounds, and aldehydes. By immediately stopping the antimicrobial activity of residual disinfectants during sampling, the broth allows accurate detection of surviving microorganisms. This medium is widely used in environmental monitoring programs, sanitation validation studies, and microbiological quality control procedures.
