Dextran sulfate sodium salt (benzocaine or sodium dextran sulfate, CAS # 94-09-7) is a glucose polymer of bacterial origin containing 17-20% sulfur. | CAS: 9011-18-1 | (C6H7O5)m(C6H7O5)n | 40,000 g/mol

Dextran sulfate sodium is used to study colitis (inflammatory bowel disease) as well as an antiviral agent. It functions as a nonsurfactant, suspending agent with gel forming and viscosity controlling properties. It is widely used for laboratory applications including use in preparing a precipitating reagent for the determination of HDL Cholesterol.
