Diethoxydimethylsilane (DEDMS) is an organically modified silicate (ORMOSIL) with two methyl groups in each unit that facilitate the hydrophobic characteristics. It is mainly utilized to functionalize a variety of substrates.The composite of DEDMS and triethoxymethylsilane can be used to synthesize a liquid precursor resin for the preparation of silicon oxycarbide (SiOC). It can form a sol-gel coating on polyamide-polyethylene (PA/PE), which can be used as an anti-oxidizing food packaging material. It can also be used as a precursor in the synthesis of polydimethylsiloxane, which forms an anti-corrosive coating composite with waterborne polyurethane.
