Dihydrofluorescein diacetate is a cell-permeable fluorimetric probe used to detect reactive oxygen species and assess oxidative stress in cell-free systems and live cells. Intracellular esterases remove the diacetate groups to generate the reduced fluorophore, which is oxidized by oxidants to produce a measurable fluorescent signal.
