It is used in association with triphenyl phosphine in Mitsunobu reaction of alcohols, acids and amides. It acts as reactant in the preparation of chromenes resembling classical cannabinoids, norbornene-based guanidine-rich polymers and acceptor-donor-acceptor organic dyes.
