Diphenyl Blue (Trypan Blue) is a cell-active dye, most commonly used for the identification of dead cells. It is frequently employed to assess cell membrane integrity and cell viability. This dye stains deactivated cells or those with incomplete cell membranes blue, while normal living cells with intact membranes do not absorb it. Macrophages, however, can phagocytose Diphenyl Blue, allowing its use as a living stain for these cells.
