DMAO is a membrane-permeable DNA dye, excellent for staining live bacteria. Stained cells can be detected by fluorescence microscopy or flow cytometry. DMAO preferentially binds to dsDNA with green fluorescence (Ex/Em, DNA-bound = 496/528 nm). The dye is suitable for both gram-positive and gram-negative strains. Unlike the SYBR dyes, DMAO is extremely stable and can be routinely handled and stored at room temperature without degradation. Properties: Liquid; Store at room temperature or below, protect from light; Ex/Em = 496/528 nm (with DNA).
