DTT, also known as Cleland's Reagent, is a particularly strong reducing agent, owing to its high conformational proprensity to form a six member ring with an internal disulfide bond. It has a redox potential of -0.33 V @ pH 7. It is used for many protein research applications, including reducing polyacrylamide electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE). The 500 mM stock solution can be directly used to achieve the amount of reducing agent required for your specific application.
