Biotium Ethidium bromide (EB), 10mg/mL in H2O
Supplier: Biotium 40042

Ethidium bromide (EB) is a widely used nucleic acid gel stain although it is also a known potent mutagen. EB is an intercalating DNA-binding dye with little sequence preference. Once bound to nucleic acids, the fluorescence of the dye is enhanced by more than 10 times while the excitation maximum is red shifted by 30-40 nm and emission is blue-shifted by about 15 nm. Because of its toxicity, Biotium offers EB solution in water as a safer alternative to weighing out the powder form. In addition, we also offer activated charcoal bags for convenient removal of the dye from solution. The dye has an excitation/emission of 522/593 nm when bound to DNA. Properties: Red solution; Store at 4°C, protect from light; Ex/Em= 279, 522/593 nm (with DNA); C21H20BrN3; MW: 394.31; [1239-45-8].
