Alkali Scientific EF 18 Agar 24mL Plate, 10/Pk

Supplier: Alkali Scientific EEFP00
EF 18 Agar is a selective and differential culture medium used for detecting Salmonella species in food, environmental, and water samples. Each sterile petri dish contains approximately 24mL of nutrient agar supplemented with sucrose, lysine, bile salts, and indicator dyes including bromothymol blue. The medium differentiates organisms based on sucrose fermentation and lysine decarboxylation reactions. Salmonella species typically do not ferment sucrose but can decarboxylate lysine, producing characteristic blue green colonies on the agar surface. In contrast, many non Salmonella bacteria ferment sucrose and generate acid, resulting in yellow colonies and surrounding medium. EF 18 agar is frequently used in membrane filtration methods and rapid detection workflows where reliable identification of Salmonella is required.
