EGTA is a cell-impermeant specific calcium ion chelator with an apparent calcium dissociation constant (Kd) of 60.5 nM at physiological pH (7.4). It shows very high specificity for Ca²⁺ over Mg²⁺ (Mg²⁺ Kd 1-10 mM) and significantly inhibits the substrate adherence capacity of inflammatory macrophages.
