Invitrogen™ Thiobarbituric Acid Reactants (TBARS) Colorimetric Assay Kit
Description
The Thiobarbituric Acid Reactants (TBARS) Colorimetric Assay Kit is a highly reliable and sensitive assay designed for the quantitative measurement of TBARS in serum, plasma, animal tissue, cultured cells, and other sample types. TBARS are products of lipid peroxidation, a process that occurs when polyunsaturated fatty acids in cellular membranes are attacked by oxygen free radicals. TBARS, particularly malondialdehyde (MDA), are commonly used as biomarkers of lipid peroxidation and can reflect the degree of oxidative stress and cellular injury in organisms.
In this assay, TBARS and thiobarbituric acid (TBA) react under high temperature and acidic conditions. This reaction forms a pink compound, which has an optical density measured at 530–540 nm and the concentration of which is linearly related to the concentration of TBARS in the sample.
