FGF acidic stimulates proliferation of all cells of mesodermal origin and many cells of ectodermal, neuroectodermal, and endodermal origin. Intracellular FGF acidic inhibits p53 activity and proapoptotic signaling, thereby enabling it to function as a survival factor.
