Description
Ethidium bromide de-staining bags is used to safely remove ethidium bromide from solution during overnight treatment. Each bag extracts up to 5 mg of Ethidium Bromide from solution thus minimizing the exposure of research personnel to this material. The special absorbent mixture retains dye molecules in a convenient bag for removal and incineration. It provide a safer, more economical means for disposal of hazardous waste.

Each ethidium bromide de-staining bag has a maximum capacity of 5 mg of ethidium bromide.
We recommend a one-time use for the de-staining bag for ease and convenience. Reusing the de-staining bag would require you to keep an accurate decontamination log to avoid saturating the resin.
We recommend following instructions for using the Ethidium bromide de-staining bags, with activation soln.:
- Wet the de-staining bag by placing it into approximately 5 mL of activation solution or water for 30 minutes.
- Add the wet bag to the solution containing ethidium bromide or stained gel.
- Allow the bag to mix overnight with gentle agitation or rocking. The gentle agitation increases the speed of adsorption.
- Remove the bag and dispose of as hazardous waste according to your institution's recommended procedures. Properly dispose of the gel or buffer solution.
