Biotium Ethidium Monoazide Bromide (EMA)
Supplier: Biotium 40015
Ethidium monoazide bromide (EMA), a fluorogenic nucleic acid (NA) binding dye, covalently labels NAs in solution and in cells with damaged membranes upon photolysis. EMA has been used to footprint drug binding sites on DNA, modify plasmid DNA, label yeast cells in leukocyte phagocytosis assays, and determine viability of bacterial cultures by viability PCR. Though relatively impermeable, EMA can label NAs in live cells. Biotium offers improved, more selective viability dyes, PMA and PMAxx™, for more accurate live-dead discrimination of microbes and viruses.Properties: Orange solid soluble in DMF or ethanol; Store desiccated at 4oC or -20oC; protect from light, especially in solution; Abs. (pH 3) = 464 nm, Ex/Em nm (after photocrosslinking to NAs) = 510/600 nm; C21H18BrN5; MW: 420; [58880-05-0]For optimal photoactivation of PMA, PMAxx™ or EMA dyes, see Biotium’s PMA-Lite™ LED Photolysis Device (#E90002) or Glo-Plate™ Blue LED Illuminator (#E90004).
