Ethyl ferulate is a naturally occurring lipophilic derivative of ferulic acid, originally found in Rhizoma Chuanxiong. It induces heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) and protects rat neurons against oxidative stress. It also protects neurons from amyloid β peptide (1-42)-induced oxidative stress and neurotoxicity.
