Fluid A is a sterile rinsing and diluting fluid prepared according to United States Pharmacopeia (USP) specifications for sterility testing. Each bottle contains 500mL of a clear solution consisting of 0.1% peptic digest of animal tissue (peptone) dissolved in purified water. The formulation contains no antimicrobial preservatives or selective additives, ensuring compatibility with microbial recovery procedures. In pharmaceutical and medical device sterility testing, Fluid A is widely used as a membrane filtration rinse to remove bacteriostatic or fungistatic residues remaining on the filter after sample processing. Eliminating these inhibitory compounds prevents suppression of microbial growth during incubation and reduces the risk of false negative results. The fluid also serves as a general purpose diluent for preparing microbial suspensions and routine microbiological testing workflows.
