Framycetin sulfate is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that acts as a potent inhibitor of RNase P cleavage activity. It competes for specific divalent metal ion binding sites in RNase P RNA and also inhibits hammerhead ribozyme. This compound is a 5″-azido neomycin B precursor and binds to the Drosha site in miR-525. It is used in the treatment of hepatic encephalopathy and infections caused by enteropathogenic E. coli.
