A fungal metabolite produced by Fusarium moniliforme. Mycotoxin. Inhibits sphinganine N-acyl-transferase(ceramide synthase)(IC50=0.1µM). Inhibits de novo sphingolipid biosynthesis (IC50=0.7µM for sphingomyelin labeling by [3H]sphinganine, cultured cerebellar neurons). Inhibits growth of axons in cultured hippocampal neurons by blocking glycosphingolipid synthesis. Induces DNA damage in the liver and cancer. Induces apoptosis. Activates Akt (protein kinase B; PKB), which leads to increased survival, inhibition of GSK-3β activity and post-translational stabilization of cyclin D1. Purity: ≥98% (HPLC).
