γ-Tocopherol (D-γ-Tocopherol) is a potent cyclooxygenase (COX) inhibitor and a naturally occurring form of Vitamin E found in many plant seeds, including corn oil and soybeans. It possesses anti-inflammatory properties and anti-cancer activity. It is well-absorbed and accumulates in some human tissues, where it is metabolized into 2,7,8-trimethyl-2-(beta-carboxyethyl)-6-hydroxychroman (gamma-CEHC) which is primarily excreted in urine. Plasma concentrations of γ-Tocopherol are inversely associated with the incidence of cardiovascular disease and prostate cancer.
