In typical measurements, 8 cm downstream of the burner, of species profiles versus λ for a flame doped with type 1 glassy carbon spherical powder, as parts per million, normalized to the Ar36 peak area and the measured particle cross sectional area in Computer Model Study of Carbon Combustion in Low Pressure Laminar H 2+ O 2 Flames. Glassy carbon spherical powder (10-20 μm diameter) modified with cysteine methyl ester is found to be an inexpensive, novel material for the rapid removal of large quantities of toxic heavy metal ions such as Cd(II), Cu(II) and As(III) from aqueous media.

This Thermo Scientific Chemicals brand product was originally part of the Alfa Aesar product portfolio. Some documentation and label information may refer to the legacy brand. What is the difference between type 1 glassy carbon and type 2 glassy carbon?

Type 1 is a "low temperature" glassy carbon produced by heat treatment at ~ 1,000-2,000°C and consists of discreet fragments of distorted graphene layers. In general, type 1 is less compressible, more resistant to oxidation, and less permeable to gasses. Type 2 is a"high temperature" glassy carbon produced by heat treatment at ~2,500-3,000°C and consists of broken or imperfect fullerene-like nanospheroids encased in a disordered, multilayered graphene matrix. Type 2 usually contains fewer impurities and has higher electrical and thermal conductivity.
