One common method for evaluating the glucose uptake ability of cells uses radioisotope-labeled glucose. Although this method has been used for many years, it requires special handling facilities and disposal of radioactive materials, at the disadvantage of inconvenience and high cost. Glucose Uptake Probe-Red has resolved these limitations. This probe emits strong red fluorescence (Ex=560 nm, Em=572 nm), allowing for easy detection of glucose uptake by a fluorescent microscope, microplate reader, and flow cytometry. It is not only a boon in regards to potential multiplex capabilities, but it also avoids emission overlap with the autofluorescence that cells produce.
