ABclonal Technology Glutathione Peroxidase 2

Supplier: ABclonal Technology A11171100UL
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the glutathione peroxidase family which reduces organic hydroperoxides and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) using glutathione to protect against oxidative damage This isozyme is primarily expressed in the gastrointestinal tract and liver localized in the cytoplasm and prefers hydrogen peroxide as a substrate Overexpression is linked to increased differentiation and proliferation in colorectal cancer As a selenoprotein it contains selenocysteine (Sec) at its active site encoded by the UGA codon The 3 UTR of selenoprotein mRNAs has a Sec insertion sequence (SECIS) element enabling UGA to code for Sec instead of terminating translation Alternative splicing results in different transcript variants
