MilliporeSigma Sigma Organics products encompass a wide range of quality reagents, solvents, catalysts, and building blocks for organic synthesis. From benchtop discovery to process development and scale-up, Sigma Organics solutions are built to meet the needs of synthetic chemists.

The product is 40wt.% solution of glyoxal in water. Glyoxal is a linear aliphatic dialdehyde containing two aldehyde groups. It participates in the synthesis of glyoxylic acid. It is highly reactive in nature. It can be prepared by oxidizing ethanol or acetaldehyde with nitric acid. It is widely employed in textile and paper industry.Glyoxal solution has been used as a crosslinking agent during the synthesis of DNA-containing nanoparticles in a study. It has been used as derivatizing reagent, in the precolumn fluorescence derivatization of N-terminal tryptophan containing peptides which can be separated via high performance liquid chromatography. It may also be used in the synthesis of glyoxal bis(4-phenyl-3-thiosemicarbazones)solution, which can be used in the spectrophotometric determination of palladium in catalysts. This form of glyoxal is composed of 3 moles of glyoxal and 2 moles of water in a relatively stable configuration.
