Cyclic GMP (cGMP) TBAOH is an important second messenger and a major intracellular mediator of extracellular signals like nitric oxide (NO) and natriuretic peptides (NPs). Its effects are mediated through cGMP-dependent protein kinases (PKGs), cGMP-gated cation channels, and PDEs. Cyclic GMP can inhibit platelet adhesion and aggregation. cGAMP (Cyclic-GMP-AMP), a conjugate of Cyclic GMP and AMP, can induce IRF3 phosphorylation and nuclear translocation, enhancing antiviral immune responses.
- Important second messenger
- Intracellular mediator of extracellular signals (nitric oxide and natriuretic peptides)
- Inhibits both platelet adhesion and aggregation
- Can activate cGMP-mediated protein kinases
- Can activate cGMP-stimulated phosphodiesterases when acting synergistically with Isoprenaline, reversing cAMP-mediated enhancement or inhibiting cAMP-induced inward calcium current (ICa)
