Hektoen Enteric (HE) Agar 20mL Plates, 10/Pk is a selective and differential culture medium used for the isolation and identification of enteric pathogens, particularly Salmonella and Shigella species, from clinical and environmental specimens. The formulation contains bile salts to inhibit Gram positive organisms and reduce growth of non pathogenic enteric bacteria. Carbohydrates including lactose, sucrose, and salicin allow differentiation through fermentation reactions, while sodium thiosulfate and ferric ammonium citrate enable detection of hydrogen sulfide production, producing black centered colonies typical of Salmonella. Each plate is pre poured with 20mL of sterile agar to provide consistent depth and reliable culture conditions for routine microbiology laboratories.
