Requires

Ethanol solution

Create electricity from ethanol and water.

  • Direct ethanol fuel cell with a small chamber to hold ethanol solution: 90% water, 10% ethanol
  • Solution keeps contact with cell's membrane on the anode side; cathode open to ambiant air
  • Electricity is produced as solution slowly turns to vinegar until 100% converted
  • A purge mechanism allows “fresh” ethanol to flow into reaction chamber and expel the used fuel
  • Experiment set and desktop fan run 8 to 12 hours with a few drops of ehtanol
  • Students can experiment with any kind of alcohol solution between 10 to 15%
