Hygromycin B is an antibiotic produced by S. hygroscopicus and is an aminoglycoside that kills bacteria, fungi, and higher eukaryotic cells by inhibition of their protein synthesis. It stabilizes the tRNA-ribosomal acceptor site which inhibits translation.
