This test is designed to help detect and identify Strep pyogenes and Enterococci plus members of the Enterobacteriaceae from clinical isolates. IDENTICULT AE uses a chromogenic substrate, L-pyroglutamylpeptide hydrolase (PYR) which produces a red to pink color upon addition of the reagent. Reagent # 2 is cinnamaldehyde, aka Spot Indole Reagent. Thus, this test gives TWO results which can also be used in the rapid identification of E. Coli from positive urine cultures.
