Influenza A virus (H3N2) strain A/Hong Kong/8/68 is propagated in SPF embryonated chicken eggs. This strain was isolated in 1968 from a human patient in Hong Kong and has applications in influenza research and in testing disinfectants and virucides. ATCC recommends this strain for use in the tests described in Federal Specifications A-A-1438, A-A-1439, A-A-1440, A-A-1441, and A-A-1443 where only the taxon is specified.
