Influenza B virus strain B/Lee/40 is propagated in MDCK (NBL-2) cells (ATCC CCL-34). This strain was isolated in 1940 from throat washings of an influenza patient in Irvington, New York, and was deposited by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It has applications in respiratory disease research.
