Kanamycin Aesculin Azide Agar is a selective isolation and enumeration medium for enterococci (Lancefield group D streptococci) in food, and is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans.Sodium azide and kanamycin provide the selective inhibition required whilst aesculin and iron salts form an indicator system for the presumptive identification of enterococci.
