This nutritionally rich medium was originally developed for growth and maintenance of E. coli strains. The capsule format eliminates the waste, inaccuracies, and mess associated with weighing out bulk powder for the ultimate in ease and convenience. Tryptone and yeast extracts supply essential growth factors that E. coli cells would otherwise have to synthesize. The medium also contains essential electrolytes for transport and osmotic balance, due to the NaCl component.

  • Reagents are tested and chosen for their ability to promote optimum growth of E. coli
  • Chosen reagents are combined in the proper proportions according to the L-Broth Agar formulation and thoroughly blended for a uniform distribution
  • Samples of the blended formulation are used to prepare agar medium
  • The combinations are mixed to dissolve components and then autoclaved at 121°C for 15 minutes
  • Recommended use is 31 capsules/liter of water
