Lactyl-CoA is an acyl-CoA essential for the biosynthesis of biodegradable and biocompatible lactic acid-based copolymers. It is formally condensed from the sulfhydryl group of CoA and the carboxyl group of lactic acid. In vitro, GTPSCS can be used as Lactyl-CoA synthetase, converting lactic acid into Lactyl-CoA and providing substrate for histone lactation.
