Lactobacillus MRS Agar (LMRS) is an enriched selective medium for the isolation & cultivation of Lactobacillus found in clinical, dairy, & food specimens. This medium is prepared, dispensed, & packaged under oxygen-free conditions to prevent the formation of oxidized products prior to use.Lactobacillus MRS agar is an enriched selective medium for the cultivation of Lactobacillus from clinical, dairy, & food specimens. LMRS agar consists of proteose peptone, beef extract, yeast extract, & dextrose as the nutritive base. The medium is supplemented with polysorbate 80 (Tween 80) & magnesium as a source of fatty acids & additional growth requirements. Sodium acetate & ammonium citrate may inhibit normal flora, such as gram-negative bacteria, oral flora, & fungi. Improved recovery of Lactobacilli occurs in the presence of these selective agents. The pH is adjusted to 6.3 to 6.7 to favor the growth of Lactobacillus spp.
