MacConkey Agar is a selective and differential medium for isolating and differentiating Escherichia coli and other enteric bacteria, formulated for harmonized microbial limit testing per USP, EP, BP and JP. Bile salts and crystal violet suppress Gram-positive flora, lactose with the neutral red indicator distinguishes lactose fermenters as pink colonies from non-fermenters, final pH 7.1. A workhorse of pharmaceutical quality control and clinical enteric bacteriology. Dehydrated powder, store in a cool dry place. Packaged as 500 g.
