MacConkey Agar No. 3, 20mL Standard Monoplate, 10/Pk is a selective and differential culture medium formulated for the isolation and differentiation of Gram negative enteric bacteria, particularly members of the Enterobacteriaceae family. The medium distinguishes lactose fermenting organisms such as Escherichia coli from non lactose fermenters like Salmonella and Shigella based on colony color and pH indicator response. Bile salts and crystal violet inhibit Gram positive organisms, while lactose and neutral red allow clear visual differentiation of fermentation patterns. Each plate contains 20mL of prepared agar in a 100 x 15mm monoplate, providing an optimal surface for streaking, inoculation, or membrane filtration applications in clinical, food safety, and water microbiology laboratories.
