Description

Used to visualize acidic mucins, which are carbohydrate molecules found in the gastrointestinal and respiratory tracts

  • The stain works by binding to the sulfur and/or carboxyl groups of the mucin, depending on the pH used
  • With a pH of 2.5, it stains both sulfated and carboxylated acid mucopolysaccharides and glycoproteins, while at a pH of 1.0, it stains only sulfated acid mucopolysaccharides
