  • Staining specimens to enhance the contrast of biological samples.
  • Used for assessing abnormalities in the liver, spleen, bone marrow, and kidneys and signaling the presence of tumors in the liver
  • Diffuses out of collagen fibers to redden muscle cells
  • Selectively stains muscle, collagen fibers, fibrin, and erythrocytes
