Metalaxyl is a fungicide agent that inhibits protein synthesis in fungi. It is effective against downy mildews and soil-borne diseases caused by *Phytium ssp.* and *Phytophthora ssp.*. In vitro, Metalaxyl inhibits the growth of *P. infestans* fungal isolates from Serbian potato fields (EC50s = 0.3-3.9 μg/mL). In vivo, it causes dose-dependent bradycardia in albino rats, with higher doses (250 and 300 mg/kg body weight) leading to sustained bradycardia and cardiac arrest, though acetylcholinesterase activities were not affected.
