Model neurodegenerative diseases in animal models with Minocycline. This semi-synthetic tetracycline with anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective properties (Garrido-Mesa et al. Br J Pharmacol, 2013) is used to reprogram extended pluripotent stem cells from humans and mice (Yang et al. Cell, 2017) and reduce the production of interleukin-8 in human epidermal keratinocytes (Ishikawa et al. Antimicrob Agents Chemother, 2009). Minocycline is also used in enhancing survival of neural stem cells in the rat model of Ischemia (Sakata et al. J Neurosci, 2012) and reducing bone and cartilage damage in rheumatoid arthritis (Greenwald et al. J Rheumatol, 1987). It also supports neuroprotective effects in animal models of various diseases, like Huntington’s disease (Chen et al. Nat Med, 2000), and Alzheimer’s disease (Choi et al.
