Also known as Acti-Dione and Naramycin A, this antibiotic inhibits peptide synthesis and is active against many molds, yeasts, and phytopathogenic fungi. Historically used in bacteriological media to isolate or count bacteria in the presence of yeasts and molds; current applications include apoptosis, gene expression, glycogenolysis, gluconeogenesis, ureogenesis, steroidogenesis, and plant growth regulation research.
