MRL-494 hydrochloride is an antibacterial agent that acts as an inhibitor of β-barrel assembly machine A (BamA). It is impervious to efflux and the outer membrane permeability barrier, demonstrating inhibitory effects on both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. MRL-494 lethally disrupts the cytoplasmic membrane and inhibits outer membrane proteins (OMPs) biogenesis by targeting BamA from outside the outer membrane.
