Mucins are a group of high molecular weight, highly glycosylated proteinsexpressed in normal and carcinogenic colon. MUC-2 is a 520-kDglycoprotein of the gastrointestinal tract. The core of the glycoproteinconsists of a variable number of tandem repeats of a 23 amino acidsequence. Mucin-2 is found in normal epithelial cells of the colon or incolon carcinoma. Muc-2 glycoprotein is expressed in mucinous tumors butnot in serous tumors. This antibody reacts with Mucin-2 (MUC-2) protein,amino acid sequence GTQTP and does not react with MUC-1, MUC-3, orhuman milk fat globule membranes. This antibody stains positive forcolon gastric cancer cells, normal intestine, colon and salivary glands, andsome human colon carcinoma cell lines (LS174T).
