N-Acetylneuraminic acid (NANA; Lactaminic acid) is a nonphenolic sialic acid found predominately in Collocalia esculenta. It is involved in various biological processes, including myocardial injury, melanoma, and viral or bacterial infections. This compound inhibits melanogenesis by reducing tyrosinase activity and triggers myocardial injury in vitro and in vivo through activation of the Rho/Rho-associated signaling pathway. It may also prevent high fat diet-induced inflammation and oxidative stress, thereby mitigating hyperlipidemia-associated conditions.

  • Inhibits melanogenesis by reducing tyrosinase activity.
